Appointment of New Board Members for the Maritime Authority of the Cayman Islands

The Governor in Cabinet approved the appointment of 4 new members to the MACI Board effective September 1, 2016 for a period of two years.  The new members are Ms. Sherice Arman (Deputy Chairperson), Mr. Clement Reid (Director), Mr. Robb Maass (Director) and Mr. Gene DaCosta (Director).  The MACI Board consists of individuals with expertise in the areas of law, financial management, national security, international shipping, corporate services and maritime affairs. 

Ms. Arman is a Partner at the law firm Maples and Calder.  She has over 17 years of experience in the area of Corporate and Commercial law.  Her areas of expertise include banking and asset finance, corporate finance, financial services, acquisitions and corporate restructuring.  Ms. Arman is also the Past President of the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association Cayman Islands (WISTA) and the Country Liaison for the Cayman Islands in Women in Maritime Caribbean (WiMAC).

Mr. Clement Reid is the Director of the Port Authority.  He has over 17 years of experience in the maritime industry.  As Port Director, he oversees operations and capital development for the Cayman Islands Port.  The Cayman Islands seaport is diverse and consistently ranked amongst the top five cruise destination ports in the Caribbean.

Mr. Robb Maass is a shareholder/Director in Alley, Maass, Rogers & Lindsay, P.A., a full-service law firm with offices in Palm Beach and Stuart, Florida.  Mr. Maass and the other lawyers in his department represent a broad spectrum of the marine industry, including yacht owners, crew members, manufacturers, dealers, brokers, and vendors.

Gene DaCosta is a Partner in the corporate department in the Cayman Islands Office of Conyers Dill & Pearman.  His practice covers all aspects of Corporate and Commercial law, with extensive expertise on advising on all areas of investment funds including regulated, licensed, exempted and private equity funds. 

These 4 members are replacing the following previous members: - the late Mr. Bruce Putterill (Deputy Chairperson), Mr. Dennis Hunter (Director), Mr. James Parsons (Director) and Mr. Nicolas A. Pappadakis (Director).  The previous members served on the MACI Board for the period 1 September 2010 to 31 August 2016 which is the maximum number of years of continuous service allowed under the Maritime Authority Law.
