Cayman Registry Rated Among World's Best Performing Flags

GEORGE TOWN, Grand Cayman

The Cayman Islands continue to rate among the world’s best performing flags, receiving high rankings across the key port state control metrics used to compare Flag State performance.

These high rankings ensure that the Cayman Registry maintains its position as a quality Flag Administration, and is recognized across all the major international Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) on Port State Control for having an outstanding Port State Control Record.

The flag’s excellent performance has ensured it maintains White-List, Low-Risk status on the Paris MOU, which encompasses the waters of the European coastal states as well as the North Atlantic basin, and on the Tokyo MOU which comprises the waters of the Asia–Pacific region, for the 17th and 13th consecutive years respectively.

The Cayman Registry also maintains low-risk status under the United States Coast Guard’s Quality Shipping for the 21st Century (QUALSHIP 21) Program, being listed as one of the few qualifying Flag Administrations eligible for the prestigious QUALSHIP 21 for the 12th consecutive year.

Attaining these highly prestigious accolades demonstrates the Cayman Registry’s commitment to the quality of the fleet on its Register. Inclusion is based on data from PSC inspections, and the effort to eliminate substandard shipping and focus on improving methods to identify poor-quality vessels. They are designed to recognize and reward vessels, their owners and operators along with their Flag Administrations for the combined commitment to the safety and quality of their vessels.

Achieving this recognition across the major international Port States is an incredible accomplishment, especially with the extraordinary challenges COVID-19 has presented over the last two years. It speaks to the dedication of the Registry and its partners who strive to maintain White-List, Low-Risk status by continuing to uphold international standards pertaining to shipping.

“As we continue to sail through the unchartered waters in the wake of COVID-19, our focus will always be on the quality of the flag and the needs of our clients. Continuing to hold White-List and Low-Risk status demonstrates the dedication of the Cayman Islands to quality shipping.” said Joel Walton, CEO of Cayman Registry. “These qualifications are a testament to the hardworking team of the Registry, shipowners and managers for their continued outstanding efforts.” He continued, “I would like to thank the Cayman Registry team and our partners for maintaining an outstanding safety and quality record for the Cayman Flag.”

Kenrick Ebanks, Global Director, Commercial Services says that keeping its focus steadfast on quality and technical excellence, the Cayman Registry’s pragmatic approach ensures maximum responsiveness to the needs of vessel owners, whilst maintaining international standards at the highest level. He remarked “These accolades earn the Cayman Registry the world-wide reputation for excellence and efficiency and help to keep it the flag of choice.”
