Cayman Registry Showcases at Monaco

“International luxury yachting industry professionals are not mistaken in positioning the MYS as the world’s leading superyacht show. Participating in the show has become a must for industry leaders.

Mr. A. Joel Walton, Cayman Maritime’s CEO

In 2009, as it does every year, the Cayman Registry once again was in attendance at the prestigious Annual Monaco Yacht Show in September; this year marked the 19th consecutive year for the recent event. It was staged in late September at the Port Hercules yacht basin.

Cayman Registry representatives from George Town headquarters, the European Regional Office in Southampton, U.K., the London office, and the Mediterranean office in Monaco, all attended the MYS and manned the handsomely appointed booth promoting the Cayman Registry. The Registry, as it is now known (formally the Cayman Islands Shipping Registry, established in 1903), is a division of the Maritime Authority of the Cayman Islands, now known simply as “Cayman Maritime”. It has had a presence for a number of years now at the annual event, deemed the most prestigious yachting event in the world.

“International luxury yachting industry professionals are not mistaken in positioning the MYS as the world’s leading superyacht show,” says Mr. A. Joel Walton, the organisation’s CEO, who leads the Cayman Registry’s delegation at MYS which attracts a global high-end professional and private clientele: 500 exhibitors and nearly 30,000 participants. “Participating in the show has become a must for industry leaders,” believes Mr. Walton. The Cayman Registry attends in conjunction with the Cayman Islands Civil Aviation Authority which is becoming increasingly successful in the registration of aircraft.

Attending from George Town headquarters were Mr. Walton, Mr. Peter Southgate, Advisor, Maritime Policy, Ms. Dorisley Jackson, Coordinator, Events, who annually organises the delegation’s participation, and intern and the organisation’s scholarship recipient, Vassel G. Johnson. Attending from the European Regional Office in Southampton were Mr. Richie Blake, Lead Surveyor (UK), Mr. Peter Simpson, Senior Surveyor (UK), and Ms. Yvonne Webb, Client Service Officer, along with Ms. Tamara Bostock, Assistant Registrar of Shipping (UK), from the London office, and Mr. Eduard Henny, Consultant Surveyor, who is in charge of operations in the Mediterranean office in Monaco.

Attending on behalf of the Civil Aviation Authority were Mr. Richard Smith, Director-General, Ms. Nikki McCoy, Director of Commercial Affairs Regulations and Administration and Mr. R. Barry Goodliffe, Head Airworthiness UK/Europe.

Yacht owners/managers and various maritime industry professionals were invited to the Cayman Registry’s popular “Mojitos in Monaco” party, sponsored by the law firm of Appleby at the Zest Monaco restaurant in Monte Carlo. Mr. Bruce Putterill and Ms. Sherice Arman represented the firm.

The Cayman Registry is the global leader in “flagging” mega-yachts (private vessels in excess of 120 feet), and many of the world’s biggest and best yachts were on display at the MYS, a significant portion of them seen to be flying the Cayman maritime flag, or “Red Ensign”.
