GEORGE TOWN, Grand Cayman; 19 March 2018
The Cayman Islands Shipping Registry (CISR) has been acknowledged by the International Chamber of Shipping for the 7th year in a row as being top-of-class in the 2017/18 Annual Flag State Performance Table.
The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) has published its latest Flag State Performance Table, providing a helpful indication of the performance of individual flag states worldwide. The annual overview analyses and ranks flags based on how they deliver against criteria including the flag states’ standing with the Port State Control Memoranda of Understanding (PSC MOUs) and demonstration of an excellent ship safety and pollution prevention record.
According to the ICS, the table has been prepared using positive indicators in order to overcome traditional prejudices of the open registers. Lower ranked registers are those which have failed to meet these standards. Being recognized by an international entity demonstrates the CISR’s strong commitment to excellence and the quality of the Cayman fleet.
Over its 115-year history, the CISR has implemented the legislative and regulatory framework necessary to qualify for the top of class designation and maintains these standards by employing and training highly qualified professionals in areas of surveying, registration, maritime law, crew and statutory documentation, security and port state control.
Mr. Joel Walton, CEO of CISR, accredited his team for the international accolades Cayman has received. “We are very pleased to be valued as one of the world’s leading flags and we will continue to strive towards excellence. The Shipping Registry serves as an integral pillar in an ever-developing Maritime Sector in the Cayman Islands.”
The Shipping Registry falls under the responsibilities of the Hon. Tara Rivers, Minister of Financial Services and Home Affairs.
“It’s incredibly impressive that CISR has been consistently recognised since 2011/12 as being top-of-class for ship safety and pollution prevention,” Minister Rivers said. “I congratulate the staff for their dedication, professionalism, and effectiveness in ensuring that our maritime flag earns this respect year after year; and as a country, Cayman has every reason to be proud of this achievement.”
