The Cayman Islands Shipping Registry (CISR) will host an informational luncheon/seminar explaining the myriad advantages to shipowners of registration of vessels in the Cayman Islands on Friday, March 7th, at the Boscolo Park Hotel in Nice, France. The seminar, which will feature round-table discussions by maritime experts, will highlight the Registry’s services to shipowners through CISR’s global office network.
The Cayman Islands Shipping Registry was first established in the port of George Town, Grand Cayman, in 1903. A British Overseas Territory located in the northwest Caribbean Sea, the Cayman Islands are the maritime flag of choice for the world’s mega-yachts. Cayman is a member of the United Kingdom’s prestigious Red Ensign Group and is rated Category 1, meaning it can register vessels of any size and description.
From humble beginnings more than a century ago, back in the days of seafaring turtle fishermen, the Cayman Islands Shipping Registry, a division of the Maritime Authority of the Cayman Islands (MACI), has evolved into a first-class international registry offering world-recognised professional and client-focused services to a global market.
The March seminar is being held in conjunction with the Registry’s launch of a new European office on the French Riviera in the port city of Cannes, which is to be fully operational by March 1st. The Shipping Registry’s new France office will be headed up by Mr. Richie Blake, Lead Surveyor (Europe), who is being seconded from the CISR’s UK office in Southhampton, England.
The new Cote d’Azur address, on Cannes’ famed "Croisette" boulevard overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, will provide a convenient location for owners of luxury mega-yachts and their representatives, as well as commercial shipping interests in the south of France, to address matters of registration, crew compliance regulations, legal documentation and other needs of the maritime industry. The Registry offices are located on the second floor of the 2-story Gray d’Albion Commercial Centre, adjacent to the 4-star Gray d’Albion Hotel, which occupies the block between the Croisette and Rue d’Antibes.
The Cayman Islands Shipping Registry integrates the latest technology to service the needs of its international maritime clients and fosters the culture of safety and integrity on its vessels whilst paying proportionate attention to the welfare of its seafarers.
"Opening a Cayman Islands Shipping Registry office on the French Riviera is a significant step for us and for our valued clients in Europe," said the Maritime Authority’s CEO, Mr. Joel Walton, pointing out that the Registry has many clients in the area, which is conveniently located near Monaco. "It rounds out our range of global locations," he added, pointing out that the Shipping Registry has a physical presence in Grand Cayman (Headquarters), Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Southampton, U.K., as well as representatives in London, Greece and Tokyo.
