Global Experiences for Maritime Authority Employees

Phillippa Knights, Human Resources Manager at the Maritime Authority of the Cayman Islands (MACI) will be heading to work in the Authority’s European Regional Office in Southampton.

Knights has worked with MACI since September 2007, when she was hired as Senior Human Resources Officer.  In October 2009, she was promoted to Human Resources Manager and will continue to perform that role when she relocates to the UK.

With offices around the world in MACI’s key markets for shipping registry and other maritime administration services, including Singapore; Hong Kong; Italy, Japan; The Netherlands; Greece; France; London, United Kingdom; and the United States, MACI provides opportunities for Caymanians to pursue careers abroad, while still providing essential services at home.  Knights is clearly excited about the opportunity:  “I’ve always been grateful to MACI for the support and guidance received over the years, and I feel fortunate to have been able to develop my career with such a progressive and global organisation.  To have the opportunity to work from our European Regional Office is invaluable. I’m looking forward to the change and experience”.

Knights’ responsibilities as Human Resources Manager include: preparation of annual audit schedules; coordinating and promoting the annual Maritime Scholarship Programme; maintaining employee files and payroll processing; guiding the employee study and training initiatives; guiding hiring protocols and functions; employee goal and objective setting; and assisting with freedom of information requests.

Joel Walton, CEO of the Marine Authority of the Cayman Islands, underscored the significance of MACI’s global presence:  “As MACI celebrates our 110th anniversary, we have spent some time reflecting on our past, but more importantly, we are invigorated by looking into the future.  The shipping industry is dynamic and is increasingly important to global trade.  The Cayman Islands is highly respected in this industry around the world and we are delighted to be able to send someone of Phillippa’s calibre to Southampton to represent Cayman there”.

Beginning her education in the Cayman Islands, Knights earned her Associate of Arts, Business Administration from the University College of the Cayman Islands in 1998, and then went to Nottingham Trent University in the UK where she received a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Psychology, Upper Second Class Honours in 2001.  In 2011, she completed a Master of Science, in Human Resource Management and Development, from the University of Leicester, UK.
