2nd Annual CMOU Seminar

GEORGE TOWN, Grand Cayman – Cayman Maritime, parent organisation of the Cayman Registry, recently hosted the 2nd Annual Caribbean Memorandum of Understanding (CMOU) Port State Control Seminar for port state control officers, 13 - 15 July, at the organisation’s global headquarters here. Port State Control is conducted by maritime authorities around the globe who inspect foreign ships that call into national ports to ensure that the condition of the ship and its equipment comply with the requirements of international regulations and that the ship is manned and operated in compliance with those rules. Delegates from Antigua & Barbuda, Aruba, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, the Netherlands Antilles, the Netherlands, St. Lucia, Trinidad & Tobago, and the U.S. attended the conference. The Chairman of the CMOU Port State Control Committee, Mr. Dwight Gardiner of Antigua and Barbuda, addressed the Opening of the Seminar and noted that “the Caymanian Administration has once again set a very high standard for seminars and meetings, as was experienced by those of us who attended last year’s seminar.” Local Cayman Registry delegates included Messrs. Duncan Currie, Principal Surveyor; Vassel Johnson III, Surveyor Intern; Collin McRae, Coordinator, Technical Compliance; Fabio Minetti, Senior Surveyor; John-Kaare Aune, Senior Surveyor; Wayne Lindsey, Maritime Officer, Technical Compliance; Ken Sun, Senior Maritime Officer, Technical Compliance; David Mitchell, Senior Client Service Officer; Capt. Peter Domladis, Senior Surveyor ; Capt. Barrie Rial, Chief Advisor, Maritime Policy & Legislations Development; Ms. Krista Dixon, Maritime Officer, Survey Administration; and Ms. Lorrie Nixon, Senior Maritime Officer, Technical Compliance. The Seminar was an interactive event and the CMOU Secretariat arranged for contributions from high profile international speakers. These included Mr. Cipriano Gomez of Transport Canada, as well as Mr. Sjaak Bot and Mr. Tio Devaney, both of Lloyd’s Register North America. An unusual feature of this year’s Seminar was an actual training inspection carried out on board a Carnival Cruise ship in the George Town harbour during the second day of the meeting, which had been arranged by Lloyd’s Register North America. A number of MACI personnel assisted during the 3-day event, including Ms. Exie Tomlinson-Panton, Head of Business Development & Client Relationships; Ms. Nancylee Bodden, Manager, Business Development and Client Relationships; and Ms. Dorisley Jackson, Coordinator, Events. The Bahamas has confirmed that it will host the 3rd Annual CMOU Port State Control Seminar, in January 2011.
