Finance & Accounting Officer Commercial Services Division George Town, Cayman Islands

The Cayman Registry, a division of Cayman Maritime, was established in 1903 and today covers the full spectrum of vessel types, including commercial ships and private pleasure yachts. The Registry maintains headquarters in the Cayman Islands a European Regional Office in Southampton, UK and has global representation within the USA, UK, Italy, France, Netherlands, Monaco, Greece, Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan.

We are now seeking to employ a Finance & Accounting Officer based in our Headquarters, George Town, Cayman Islands. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the postholder will assist with the accounting functions of our Commercial Services Division.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES & JOB FUNCTIONS:

The primary role of this post is to provide administrative support to a small and dynamic team of professionals.

The post holder reports to the Chief Financial Officer for the activities providing clerical and financial functions and ensuring all payables and payroll are processed timely and accurately in accordance with internal control procedures.  The officer will also provide timely responses to all vendor/client related queries, internal personnel and audit requests within the finance section.

The job functions include, but are not limited to:

  1. Perform essential AP duties; Perform all AP related duties in various currencies;
  2. Manage payment schedules (including wires; foreign and local);
  3. Process monthly accounting batches for our Southampton office operations;
  4. Process invoices, expense and credit card claim forms;
  5. Review assigned accounts and reconcile to statement and related transactions;
  6. Reconcile GL accounts;
  7. Analyze invoices/contracts and record entries timely and accurately;
  8. Prepare related journals;
  9. Assist with external/internal audits;
  10. Maintain filing of accounts documentation under role responsibility; and
  11. Perform any other duties as requested from time to time by the Chief Financial Officer, Head, Finance & Accounting, CEO or Designate.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

To perform this job effectively the post holder must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements contained within the Job Description are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodation will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  1. Bachelors or tertiary degree and three (3) years of progressive relevant experience; and
  2. As an alternative to formal qualifications, seven (7) years’ experience in a similar capacity; and
  3. A professional accounting qualification is beneficial but not required.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  1. Sound language, analytical, presentation and IT skills;
  2. Ability to write reports and business correspondence;
  3. Competent in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook;
  4. Strong leadership skills with the ability to build and lead an effective and cohesive Finance team;
  5. Strong organizational, prioritization and detail-oriented skills within established procedures; and
  6. An ability to prioritize and work to tight deadlines.
