1. BACKGROUND
1.1 On 02 June 2023, the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency published Marine Guidance Note No. MGN 681(M) on fire safety and storage of small electric powered craft on yachts.
1.2 The guidance contained in MGN 681(M) is intended to outline best practices related to design, equipment and outfit of dedicated spaces onboard, and to increase safety for handling, charging and stowage of Li-ion batteries and craft with these in-built.
1.3 The Cayman Islands Shipping Registry (CISR) supports the publication of MGN 681 (M) and the guidance will be incorporated into future revisions of the REG Yacht Code.
1.4 Until the revised REG Yacht Code is published and enters into force, CISR strongly recommends that the guidance contained in MGN 681 (M) is followed on all yachts carrying small electric powered craft.
1.5 A copy of MGN 681 (M) is annexed to and forms part of this Guidance Note
